Traditional Books Soon a History

Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman is an author and one of the first writers to establish a blog. In his article Future of books today he gives “traditional publishing” five or maybe 10 years”. Not meaning fewer books, but the medium of accessing them will be varied. Since the advent of e-books, reading devices are many; daily they are getting less expensive and more popular.

This evolution of the “traditional” book has both disadvantages and advantages.

One advantage is the younger generation may be encouraged to read.  Nowadays children are mostly interested in anything with a screen.

The negative impact is that it lessens the outdoor activities; however on the brighter side this is an avenue for learning. Children will now be more inclined to “pick up a book”. Change and new methods are always feared, it means moving away from one’s comfort zone.

The younger generation has already taken hold of the e-book and the older generation are not too far behind. The medium may have changed; nevertheless the terminology, “curling up in bed” with your favorite book still holds. Happy reading to all.
